Financial Help For Disabled

Financial Help For Disabled
where do I find financial help for the partially disabled?

I am what the government considers partially disabled at 27 years old. I can work some but not enough to obtain health insurance through full time employment or enough of a paycheck to live on my own. Social Security from what I understand will only help you if you are fully disabled. Where do I go from here?

You need to understand the difference between “impaired” and “disabled.” Impaired means you have medical problems that cause limitations in your level of functioning. Disability, means you’ve lost the ability to do at least some types of work because of the impairment.

I’ve seen people “rated” at 10% get approved for Social Security Disability benefits. I’ve seen people “rated” at 100% not get approved.

Social Security only pays if you are 100%. If the ABSOLUTE MAX you can earn no matter hard you try is less than the threshold set by the governemnt (called Substantial Gainful Activity and currently $860/month for 2006 and $830/month for 2005), then you are 100% and eligible for SS benefits.
