Best career path for Financial Analyst Position?
Im currently working in a government consulting company as an entry level accountant position to gain experience and for the company to help pay for my MBA. I want to eventually gain a position as an financial analyst. Am i heading in the right direction? I have a BA is psych and currently in the process of getting my MBA specializing in finance. Your input is appreciated.
Do you think i should stay with this company or leave and try to find a entry level financial analyst position. My company is paying 100% for my MBA.
thanks simon. Do you think I can email if you with some more questions and ur input on some things. You can email me and I’ll back. Thanks
The best path in any career is to start at the bottom and work your way up.
If your company is paying for your degree then it would be the professional and ethical thing top remain with them and gain more experience.
there are a lot of FA positions out there and many try and force a career path by chopping and changing employers in order to get ahead.
After a while they become known ( dont forget many FAs, senior accountants etc belong to professional organisations)
and become unemployable because they have a history of leaving jobs.
The government offers many career opportunities and is probably one of the best employers around, particulaly in relation to worktime , flexibility and conditions.
Speak to your manager about developing a Profesional development plan for your self and review it every 3 to 6 months. out line your goals and find out what you have to do to reach them.
It also pays to become involved in work projects that may be around that are not necessarily in your line of work, this helps to broaden your skills base and makes you known to more managers and senior staff as well. that is always good for professional development.
The best way to forge a career path is to have clearly defined goals, a time line to reach them and an understanding of what you need to do to get there, make sure your management knows what your goals are as well so they can help you reach them.
I did this with my manager and I now project manage a large multi million dollar national project and a team of people with my company .
